A woman in her 30s has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a deceased baby boy in Notting Hill, Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

The baby’s body was found inside a bag near All Saints Church.

Following a public appeal, officers located and arrested the woman on Saturday, March 29th, on suspicion of concealing a birth, neglect, and infanticide.

Police stated that this arrest was necessary to further their investigation and gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

The woman was promptly taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and remains under hospital care.

A forensic post-mortem examination is scheduled for later this week, which is expected to provide crucial information regarding the baby boy’s death. However, police emphasized that they are maintaining an open mind regarding the circumstances.

Superintendent Owen Renowden, who oversees policing in Kensington and Chelsea, addressed the public, stating,

“This is an ongoing, fast-paced investigation, with officers working tirelessly to ascertain the circumstances of the baby boy’s death.”

“We believe that the woman is the baby’s mother and I am reassured that she is receiving the support she needs, while officers continue their work to understand what took place.”

He acknowledged the potential concern within the community following the arrest, but stressed that the priority remains the welfare of all involved and a thorough exploration of all lines of inquiry.

“I appreciate the high level of attention that this investigation has received, but we politely ask for the public not to speculate,” Superintendent Renowden added.

Despite the arrest, the police are continuing to appeal for information from the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 101 or via @MetCC, quoting CAD1879 of 26 March.

The Metropolitan Police thanked the local community for their continued support throughout the investigation.
