Blackburn commuters faced delays this afternoon as Barbara Castle Way was closed at its junction with Ainsworth Street due to a road traffic collision.

Local authorities confirmed the closure, advising motorists to seek alternative routes and allow extra travel time.

The incident occurred earlier today, prompting an immediate response from emergency services to clear the scene.

“Barbara Castle Way at the junction with Ainsworth Street is currently closed due to a road traffic collision,” stated a spokesperson.

“We anticipate that the road will be closed for a short amount of time, whilst we clear the road.”

Drivers were urged to exercise caution and drive carefully, as traffic congestion built up in the surrounding area.

The spokesperson added, “In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.”

The extent of any injuries sustained in the collision remains unclear at this time.

Authorities have not released details regarding the vehicles involved or the circumstances leading to the incident.

The public has been assured that updates will be provided as soon as the road is reopened.

“We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening and we’ll update you here once. As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you’re out and about today,” the spokesperson concluded.

Motorists are advised to monitor local traffic updates and plan their journeys accordingly until the road has been fully reopened.
