A significant community concern was alleviated today after Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a mother and her newborn baby, linked to a placenta discovered in Werneth Park earlier on Friday, March 28, 2025, have been located and are both safe and well.

The discovery of the placenta had prompted an urgent appeal from the police, leading to the temporary closure of Werneth Park as officers conducted thorough investigations.

Medical professionals collaborated with the police in their inquiries.

“We are pleased to say that they are both safe and doing well,” stated a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.

“Alongside medical professionals, we have conducted several enquiries and are satisfied that the identity of those who have come forward match the placenta found.”

The police have now concluded their investigation, determining that there were “no untoward circumstances” surrounding the incident.

The scene at Werneth Park has been closed, and normal activities have resumed.

The police expressed their gratitude to the public for their assistance and cooperation during the park’s closure.

“We want to thank members of the public who have assisted us and cooperated with the closure of the park today, and hope that this update provides closure to any earlier concerns,” the spokesperson added.

The swift resolution of this incident has brought relief to the local community, which had been concerned for the well-being of the mother and child.
