Four men have been arrested following a serious assault in Liverpool city centre on Friday evening, March 28th, which left a man in his 30s with critical head injuries.

Merseyside Police were called to the junction of Hanover Street and Ranelagh Street, near a McDonald’s restaurant, at approximately 7:35 PM after reports that the victim had been struck in the face and collapsed.

The injured man, who was visiting the city, was immediately transported to hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

A forensic examination of the scene is currently underway, and police have requested public patience as they conduct their investigations.

Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area and speaking with potential witnesses.

The four men arrested are believed to be known to the victim. They have been detained on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and are currently in custody for questioning.

The arrested individuals include:
* A 19-year-old man from Redditch.
* A 26-year-old man from Birmingham.
* A 37-year-old man from Birmingham.
* A 31-year-old man from Hollywood, Worcestershire.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry expressed his concern over the incident, stating,

“This assault has left the victim in a critical condition during what should have been an enjoyable night out in Liverpool.

People should be able to visit our city centre without any fear of being a victim of – or even witnessing – an incident such as this.”

“It is vital that anyone responsible for bringing violence to the streets of Merseyside is brought to justice, and we appeal to the public to assist with our enquires into the incident.

The information you have could prove vital to our enquiries,” he added.
