A police investigation is underway after a suspicious item, believed to be remains of either a human or animal, was discovered in Werneth Park on Frederick Street in Oldham.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the scene at approximately 2:40 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, following reports from a member of the public.
Officers have since secured the area and are conducting thorough investigations.
“Officers remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing,” a GMP spokesperson stated.
“This is an isolated incident and there is no threat or risk to the local community.”
The nature of the discovered item has yet to be confirmed. At this early stage, authorities are unable to determine whether the remains are human or animal.
Forensic experts are expected to examine the item to establish its origin and provide further clarity.
Residents of the area have been assured that there is no cause for alarm, and the police are treating the incident with utmost seriousness.
“At this early stage in the investigation we cannot confirm who the remains belong to,” the spokesperson added.
