Lancashire Police, in collaboration with Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and contractors Willmott Dixon, celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the new Pendle Police Station with a traditional “topping out” ceremony.
The event, held at the Carr Road site in Nelson, marked the completion of the building’s structural framework, signifying the highest point of construction. With the exterior largely complete, Willmott Dixon will now focus on the interior fit-out, aiming for a Spring 2026 completion date.
The new station, which began construction in March of last year, is set to replace both Nelson and Colne police stations, consolidating resources into a modern, purpose-built facility.
During the ceremony, the Estates and Facilities Management Department presented a symbolic plant to PCC Clive Grunshaw, the estate’s owner, a tradition intended to bring good luck and longevity to the building.
Clive Grunshaw expressed his satisfaction with the project’s progress, stating,
“I’m delighted to see the Pendle Police Station development on track, as we mark this latest milestone in its construction.
The Carr Road station will play a key part in delivering efficient, effective policing for Pendle and the wider area, and is a significant investment into policing infrastructure within the east of our county.
I’m looking forward to being able to open this modern, fit for purpose police station that will help deliver on my commitment to tackle crime and keep people safe.”
Superintendent Derry Crorken, Operations Manager for Pendle, emphasized the significance of the new building for both officers and the community.
“This is more than just a building, it’s an investment in our people and for the people of Pendle,” he said. “With the structure taking shape, we can see how the working environment here will help provide the facilities our teams need to do their jobs effectively, ensuring officers have the modern facilities and the very best support to deliver frontline services to keep the people of Pendle safe.”
Michael Poole-Sutherland, director for Willmott Dixon in the North, highlighted the company’s commitment to the project and the community.
“We’re proud to support Lancashire Constabulary with this significant project which will provide officers with state-of-the-art facilities to keep the people of Pendle safe,” he stated.
Beyond the construction, Willmott Dixon is also focused on creating a positive community impact.
They have already contributed over 80 volunteering hours to Pendle Food For All and plan to collaborate with Nelson and Colne College to provide trade students with practical on-site experience.
Additionally, they will partner with local charity Positive Action in the Community to assist residents in overcoming employment barriers.
The new Pendle Police Station is anticipated to enhance policing services in the region, providing officers with modern amenities and fostering stronger community relations.
