Moorland Fire Near Blackstone Edge Reservoir Under Control, Crews Remain on Scene

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service worked through the night to extinguish a large moorland fire near Blackstone Edge Reservoir.

Crews remain on scene this morning, Friday, March 28, 2025, to fully extinguish the blaze and ensure the area is safe.

GMFRS reported that they were called to the scene shortly before 9:45 PM on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Two fire engines from Rochdale and Bolton North Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a significant fire spreading across the moorland.

Working in collaboration with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, they battled the flames, successfully extinguishing large portions of the fire throughout the night.

“Crews remain in attendance to completely extinguish the fire and to ensure the area is safe,” a GMFRS spokesperson stated.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet released any information regarding potential causes.

The incident highlights the ongoing risk of moorland fires, especially during drier periods.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution and avoid activities that could ignite dry vegetation.
