A potential artillery round brought into Frederick Nattrass Primary School in Norton caused a temporary evacuation of children and staff on Wednesday, March 26th.
Cleveland Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 10:50 am. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of a suspected artillery round within the school grounds.
As a precautionary measure, the school was immediately evacuated, along with nearby business premises.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was promptly contacted and attended the scene to assess and manage the potentially dangerous item.
Police established a cordon around the school, advising the public to avoid the area while the situation was handled.
An update from Cleveland Police later confirmed that the EOD team successfully removed the suspected artillery round. The cordon has been lifted, and the school has been declared safe.
“Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) colleagues have removed a suspected artillery round which was taken into school grounds at Frederick Nattrass Primary School in Norton this morning (Wednesday 26th March),” stated a spokesperson for Cleveland Police.
“Children and staff were evacuated from the school as a precautionary measure.”
The police expressed their gratitude to the public for their cooperation and patience during the incident.
“The cordon has now been removed and we would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst this incident was dealt with quickly and safely,” the spokesperson added.
The origin of the artillery round is currently unknown. Authorities have not released further details regarding the investigation.
