Blackpool faced significant traffic disruption this afternoon as emergency services responded to a substantial fire at a block of flats on Park View Court, located off Highfield Road.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched five fire engines, including an aerial ladder platform, to tackle the blaze, which is believed to have originated on the rooftop of the building.

The incident, occurring during school dismissal time, caused significant traffic congestion in the Highfield Road area and surrounding streets.
Highfield Road was closed at both ends to allow firefighters to safely access the scene and combat the fire.

This closure resulted in a substantial build-up of traffic, compounded by the influx of vehicles related to school pick-up.
Local authorities issued urgent warnings, advising motorists to avoid the immediate and surrounding area.
“We’re assisting Lancashire Fire and Rescue who are currently dealing with a fire on Highfield Road,” a statement from local police confirmed.

“Due to this, there is a large amount of traffic building up in the area, especially with the schools finishing. Highfield Road is closed at both ends and so we’re asking that you please avoid the immediate and surrounding area until we’re happy that it’s safe for you to travel.”
The statement also cautioned that traffic was expected to spill over into other areas as drivers sought alternative routes.
Residents were urged to plan their journeys carefully, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the rooftop blaze, utilizing the aerial ladder platform to reach the elevated flames.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Authorities have pledged to provide updates on the road closures and traffic situation as soon as Highfield Road is deemed safe for travel.
Motorists are advised to stay informed and follow official guidance.
