The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command has announced that the fire at the electricity substation in Hayes on March 21st is not being treated as suspicious.

After extensive inquiries, officers have found no evidence to suggest criminal activity was the cause of the incident.

The fire, which caused significant disruption and concern in the local area, prompted a thorough investigation involving the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, alongside partners from National Grid, London Fire Brigade, and SSEN.

“Following enquiries to date, officers have found no evidence to suggest that the incident was suspicious in nature,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated.

“As such, we are no longer treating this as a potentially criminal matter.”

Despite the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the Met confirmed they will continue to support the other agencies involved in the ongoing assessment and recovery efforts.

“We continue to support other partners, including colleagues from National Grid, London Fire Brigade and SSEN, with whom we remain in close contact,” the spokesperson added.

The police have also emphasized that should any new information or evidence come to light, it will be thoroughly examined and considered.

The initial fire caused widespread power outages and raised concerns about potential security threats. The swift response and collaborative work of the various agencies involved has been noted.

Residents of Hayes are now awaiting further updates from National Grid and SSEN regarding the restoration of full power services and the long-term stability of the electricity supply in the area.
