A stolen Audi SQ8, taken overnight from Scotland without the keys, was dramatically recovered on the M6 southbound after a high-speed pursuit, Lancashire Police have confirmed.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The vehicle was spotted by officers from the Road Policing Unit (RPU) and the Road Crime Team between junctions 33 and 32 of the M6.

Recognizing the stolen vehicle, officers initiated a pursuit, employing Tactical Pursuit and Containment (TPAC) tactics to safely bring the vehicle to a stop.

“The Audi SQ8 had been stolen overnight from Scotland without keys,” stated a spokesperson from Lancashire Police.

“Our RPU and Road Crime Team sighted the vehicle on the M6 southbound between junctions 33 and 32, and it was successfully stopped using TPAC tactics.”

The TPAC method, which involves coordinated manoeuvres to safely halt a vehicle, was crucial in preventing a potentially dangerous high-speed chase and ensuring the safety of other road users.

Following the successful stop, two individuals were arrested at the scene. They are now in custody and will be questioned in relation to the theft.

The owner of the Audi SQ8, who had reported the vehicle stolen from Scotland, was informed of the recovery.

Police confirmed that arrangements are being made to return the vehicle to its rightful owner.

“We are delighted to be able to return the vehicle to its owner,” the spokesperson added. “This successful recovery is a testament to the vigilance and swift action of our officers.”

The incident highlights the effectiveness of inter-force cooperation and the rapid response capabilities of the Lancashire Police in tackling cross-border vehicle theft.

Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
