In a somber development, Lancashire Constabulary has confirmed that the body of a man found in a wooded area near Clough Street in Darwen has been identified as 76-year-old David Kay, who was reported missing on Sunday.
The search for Mr. Kay, which prompted a public appeal for assistance, has ended in tragedy. Police discovered the body late last night.
“Sadly, the body of a man was found in a wooded area near to Clough Street in Darwen last night,” a statement from Lancashire Constabulary read.
“Whilst no formal identification has taken place, we do believe it to be Mr. Kay. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this incredibly sad time.”
The police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that a file will be prepared for the coroner.
The statement also expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in the search.
“Thank you to all who shared the post and provided information to assist us in locating David. This is not the update that we wanted to provide you with, but your help has been invaluable, as always.”
The community in Darwen is mourning the loss of Mr. Kay. Residents who had shared appeals and offered support during the search have expressed their condolences to his family and friends.
