A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after a stabbing incident on Tib Street, near Market Street, in Manchester city centre.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) responded to reports of the stabbing and found the victim suffering from serious injuries.
He was immediately taken to hospital, where medical staff have confirmed that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Detective Inspector Geoffrey Machent, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, released a statement reassuring the public that the incident is not believed to pose a wider threat.
“At around 7:45pm on Thursday 20 March, we were called to reports of a stabbing on Tib Street,” he stated.
“A man was subsequently taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing.
He remains there for treatment. At this time, we do not believe the incident presents any threat to the wider public or local businesses operating in the area.”
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are actively conducting enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
In an effort to provide reassurance to the community, neighbourhood officers, including the newly formed Piccadilly Gardens team, will be deployed to the area in the coming days.
DI Machent appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
“We would like to appeal to the public for any information, or anyone who witnessed this incident, to please come forward,” he said.
