James Goy, 39, of Plumpton Close, Bradford, has been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison for the repeated rape and sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13.

The sentencing took place today at Leeds Crown Court, following an investigation by specialist safeguarding officers in Kirklees.

Goy targeted the young victim between 2020 and 2022. The investigation commenced after the girl’s mother reported the offences to West Yorkshire Police.

Goy was subsequently arrested and pleaded guilty last month to nine counts of raping a child under 13 and one count of sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Goy has been issued with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Detective Constable Holly O’Neill from the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit, who led the investigation, expressed her satisfaction with the court’s decision.

“We welcome the sentence handed down to James Goy today for his reprehensible crimes. This sends a strong and clear message that we will not tolerate the exploitation of children in our community,” she stated.

Detective Constable O’Neill also commended the victim for her bravery during the investigation and trial.

“I would personally like to commend the victim for her courage throughout the investigation and subsequent trial. Her fortitude and that of her family will ensure the safety of other children for years to come,” she added.

West Yorkshire Police reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and bringing perpetrators to justice.

“West Yorkshire Police are dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable among us and holding perpetrators to account,” said Detective Constable O’Neill.

The police are urging any victims of unreported sexual offences, whether recent or non-recent, to come forward.

“I want to encourage any victims of unreported sexual offences, whether recent or non-recent, to please come forward and report them to us,” Detective Constable O’Neill urged.

“Our specialist officers will support you through the criminal justice process, and we will thoroughly investigate and bring those responsible to justice.”
