A 24-year-old man from Birmingham has been charged with rape and assault following an alleged sexual assault in Liverpool in February.

Kabir Rahmati, of Alcester Street, Birmingham, was charged on Monday, March 24th, and has been remanded in custody.

The charges stem from an incident reported to Merseyside Police in the early hours of Thursday, February 20th, where a woman reported being sexually assaulted at the junction of Vauxhall Road and Leeds Street.

Rahmati is scheduled to appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on Friday, March 28th.

Detective Inspector Jamie Heston, from Merseyside’s specialist Rape Investigation Team – Unity, emphasized the force’s commitment to investigating sexual offences.

“Our investigation team continues to work tirelessly to investigate any reports of sexual offences. Sexual violence against women and girls will simply not be tolerated and we will work tirelessly with our colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service to bring perpetrators to justice,” he stated.

He also highlighted the support available for victims, saying,

“We are committed to protecting victims of sexual offences, and anyone who reports an incident to us will be safeguarded and supported throughout the investigation by specially trained officers and Sexual Violence Advocates who will provide all the relevant support.”

Merseyside Police are encouraging anyone with information or anyone who wishes to report a sexual offence to come forward.

Reports can be made by calling 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In emergencies, individuals are urged to call 999.

The force also provided information about specialist support services available to victims. These services, which are free and accessible without a referral or prior police report, include the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (Safe Place) and the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor service.

Safe Place offers the option of an anonymous medical examination and DNA evidence storage, allowing victims to consider reporting to the police at a later time.

Additional support is available through Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (RASA) Merseyside (0151 558 1801) for those in Liverpool, Sefton, and Wirral, and Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) Cheshire and Merseyside (01925 221 546 or 0330 363 0063) for individuals in St Helens and Knowsley.
