Tragic Fatality In North Yorkshire As HGV Smashes Through Bridge

A 30-year-old man has tragically died following a collision involving a blue Volvo tipper HGV and a bridge on the A684 in Bainbridge early this morning, March 21st.

The incident occurred just after 6:00 AM, when the HGV collided with the bridge over the River Bain, resulting in the vehicle coming to rest in the river below.

Despite the swift response from paramedics and the efforts of members of the public who rushed to assist, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses and information to aid their investigation. They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who:

* Was driving along the A684 and witnessed a blue Volvo tipper HGV travelling from Masham towards Bainbridge.

* Witnessed the collision itself.

* Possesses dashcam footage or CCTV that captures the HGV’s route or the incident.

“We are appealing to anyone who was driving along the A684 and saw a blue Volvo tipper HGV travelling from Masham, then along the A684 towards Bainbridge or anyone who witnessed the collision, to get in touch.

We’re also appealing to anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV that covers the route to contact us,” stated a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police.

The police have expressed their gratitude to the members of the public who offered assistance at the scene, and extended their deepest condolences to the driver’s family during this difficult time.

The collision has caused significant damage to the bridge over the River Bain, leading to its closure.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as the bridge remains closed for assessment and repair.
