A Northallerton man, Luke Jack Ridley, 29, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the rape of a teenage girl, with the offences occurring over a decade ago.
Ridley, currently residing at HMP Holme House, Stockton-on-Tees, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape at Teesside Crown Court on February 4, 2025.
The court heard that Ridley, who was a teenager at the time of the incidents, forced himself upon the victim, who was several years younger.
The victim bravely came forward to North Yorkshire Police in September 2022, initiating a thorough investigation.
Detective Constable Quita Readman of Hambleton and Richmondshire CID led the inquiry, providing unwavering support to the victim and ensuring she received professional care from agencies, including IDAS.
Following the sentencing at Teesside Crown Court, DC Readman praised the victim’s courage.
“The victim has been courageous throughout this ordeal. I hope the outcome at court gives her strength as she begins to rebuild her life knowing justice has been served,” she stated.
DC Readman also emphasized the importance of reporting sexual offences, regardless of the time elapsed.
“It also proved once again that it is never too late to make a report and seek professional help. We are here for you,” she said.
Addressing Ridley’s actions, DC Readman added, “As for Ridley, he now has a considerable period of time in prison to reflect on the misery and trauma he has caused for more than a decade.”
Ridley will be placed on the Register of Sex Offenders indefinitely.
