Lancashire Constabulary is intensifying its search for wanted man, Jamie Cooper, who absconded from a GEOAmey prison van on Wednesday morning.

Authorities believe he may have traveled to the Bolton area, despite being originally from Blackpool and having been sighted in Preston after his escape.

Cooper, 33, escaped from the van on the M55 near junction 2 (Catforth), close to Preston, at approximately 8:54 AM on March 19th.

The van was transporting prisoners from Blackpool custody to Lancaster Magistrates Court.

Police have released a recent image of Cooper, taken after his escape, in an effort to aid in his recapture.

He is described as a white male, 5ft 7in tall, of medium build, with short, cropped hair.

At the time of his escape, he was wearing a blue coat, blue jeans, and black trainers.

“We have a dedicated team of uniformed officers and detectives actively searching for Jamie Cooper,” stated a spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary.

“Our priority is to locate him and return him to custody as quickly as possible.”

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution. “If you see Jamie Cooper, please do not approach him. Instead, call 999 immediately,” the spokesperson emphasized.

Anyone with information that could assist in the search is asked to contact Lancashire Constabulary on 101, quoting log number 0237 of March 19, 2025.

The incident has raised concerns regarding the security of prisoner transportation, and Lancashire Constabulary has assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to apprehend Cooper and prevent future incidents.

The search remains ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
