West Yorkshire Police are urgently seeking information following a targeted shooting in the Edgerton area of Huddersfield last night, which left a man with severe injuries.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Queens Road at approximately 9:50 PM on Friday, March 21st.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man in his forties suffering from arm and foot injuries. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

Police have confirmed that the victim’s injuries are consistent with the discharge of a firearm and are considered to be life-changing.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects arrived at Queens Road in a dark, ’10 plate’ people carrier-type vehicle, believed to be either a Nissan Qashqai or a Juke.

One suspect exited the vehicle and approached the victim before discharging a firearm at close range.

The vehicle then fled the scene at high speed towards the A629 Edgerton Road.

The incident is being treated as a targeted attack and is being investigated by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, who is leading the investigation, expressed his concern for the local community.

“We realise that an incident of this nature will cause shock to the local community, and the wider Huddersfield area. A full investigation has been launched into this incident, and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact us.”

Police are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen the suspect vehicle in the Edgerton area around the time of the incident, or anyone who may have captured footage of the vehicle on their CCTV or dash cam.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who saw the people carrier-type vehicle in the Edgerton area at around this time, or anyone who may have captured footage of this vehicle on their CCTV or dash cam,” DCI Entwistle added.

In an effort to reassure residents, police patrols have been increased in the Queens Road area. Residents with concerns or information are encouraged to speak with attending officers.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101, or via the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log 2012 of 21 March.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online.
