Inferno at Craven Road: Firefighters Battled Intense Scrap Yard Blaze

Altrincham residents were advised to keep their doors and windows closed after a significant fire broke out at a scrap yard on Craven Road.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) responded to the incident at approximately midday on Saturday, March 22nd, following reports of multiple vehicles ablaze at the commercial property.

Four fire engines, dispatched from Stretford, Altrincham, Sale, and Wythenshawe fire stations, along with an aerial appliance from Manchester Central, were quickly deployed to the scene.

Firefighters worked into the afternoon to extinguish the flames.

A spokesperson for GMFRS stated, “At around midday today (Saturday March 22), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Craven Road in Altrincham.

Four fire engines from Stretford, Altrincham, Sale and Wythenshawe fire stations, along with the aerial appliance from Manchester Central fire station quickly arrived at the scene, where a number of vehicles had caught fire at a scrap yard.

Firefighters remain at the scene throughout the afternoon as they work to extinguish the fire, and asked residents to keep doors and windows closed.”

Dramatic footage from the scene shows plumes of black smoke billowing across the skies.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
