Joshua Martin, a 26-year-old man from Primrose Hill, Huddersfield, has been sentenced to eight years in prison at Leeds Crown Court today after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offences against a child.

Martin was convicted of four counts of sexual activity with an underage female.

The offences occurred between 2024 and early 2025, during which time he groomed the victim before commencing sexual activity.

The case came to light in early 2025 when the matter was reported to West Yorkshire Police, prompting an investigation by the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit.

Martin was subsequently arrested and charged, appearing before Leeds Crown Court on January 13, 2025.

In addition to the sexual offences, Martin was also convicted of failing to comply with the requirements of being on the Sex Offenders Register.

Detective Constable Leia Houtekamer, of the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Team, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the case.

“We welcome the conviction and sentencing of Joshua Martin at Leeds Crown Court today,” she said.

“Martin is a registered sex offender who groomed and then committed sexual offences against a teenage victim, while in full knowledge that she was under the age of consent.

All reports of sexual offences are taken extremely seriously and fully investigated by specialist safeguarding detectives.

We always urge victims to come forward and can promise that the needs of victims are at the forefront of our investigations.”

West Yorkshire Police encourages anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to come forward and report it.

They assure that all reports will be handled with sensitivity and professionalism.
