Fugitive Jamie Cooper Recaptured in Blackburn After M55 Escape

Jamie Cooper, 33, who escaped from a prison van on the M55 near Preston earlier this week, has been apprehended by police in Blackburn.

The arrest brings an end to a multi-day search that captivated local residents and prompted widespread appeals for information.

Cooper absconded at approximately 8:54 AM on Wednesday, March 19th, while being transported from Blackpool custody to Lancaster Magistrates Court in a GEOAmey prison van.

The incident triggered an immediate police response, with officers launching an extensive search operation.

Lancashire Constabulary released a public appeal for assistance, urging anyone with information about Cooper’s whereabouts to come forward.

The breakthrough came this afternoon when officers stopped a car in Blackburn that had travelled from Bolton.

The car was intercepted, leading to Cooper’s arrest. He was taken into custody on suspicion of escaping from lawful custody.

“To update you, Cooper, 33, was found in Blackburn this afternoon after a car which had travelled from Bolton, was stopped by officers,” confirmed a spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary.

“He was arrested on suspicion of escaping from lawful custody and is now in custody.”
