Three boys, all of secondary school age, have been charged with multiple counts of rape following an incident reported in Newbold, Rochdale, on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

The boys, aged 13, 14, and 15, have each been charged with one count of rape of a female under the age of 16.

They have also been jointly charged with two additional counts of rape of a female under 16.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the three boys are scheduled to appear at Manchester Youth Court on March 24, 2025.

A fourth boy, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, has been released without charge.

Detective Superintendent Phil Key stated,

“This investigation has seen extensive and thorough work reviewing all available evidence in this case. We are now in a position to charge three boys following the incident last year.”

He emphasized the ongoing support being provided to the victim, noting,

“We continue to provide support to the victim and her wellbeing has been a priority for us over the last 12 months.”

Detective Superintendent Key also urged the public to refrain from speculating on the identities of those involved, reminding them of the legal right to anonymity for individuals under 18.

“I would remind the public not to speculate on names of those they believe to be involved, as those under 18 have a legal right to anonymity and in speculating over names, this poses a risk to justice, and criminal proceedings can and may be brought against those naming,” he warned.

The victim is receiving specialized support from trained officers. The investigation remains ongoing.
