Firefighters from Darwen and Blackburn tackled a blaze involving a large quantity of waste in a tipper vehicle at the junction of Park Road and Bolton Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the incident at 13:41 hours on March 19th, 2025.

Two fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene to combat the flames.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a significant fire within the waste tipper, posing a potential hazard to the surrounding area.

Firefighters swiftly deployed one hose reel and a ceiling hook to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

The operation required considerable effort due to the nature of the waste involved, and firefighters remained on scene for one hour and twenty-five minutes to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and the area was safe.

The incident caused some traffic disruption at the busy junction, with temporary road closures implemented to allow emergency services to operate safely.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
