The family of 20-year-old Aalia Mahomed, who tragically died in a collision in Aldwych on Tuesday, have released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a “bright, kind and beautiful soul.”

Aalia was fatally injured in a collision involving a van and pedestrians near The Strand, close to King’s College London campus, at approximately 11:41hrs on March 18th.

In a statement released through the Metropolitan Police, Aalia’s family said,

“Aalia was a bright, kind and beautiful soul, who brought joy and laughter to everyone. She was a ray of sunshine in our lives, and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Her light will always live on in our memories and her smile will be our strength as we get through this difficult time.”

Emergency services responded to the scene, but sadly, Aalia was pronounced dead. Her family are being supported by specialist officers and have requested privacy during this devastating time.

Two other pedestrians were also injured in the collision. A 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but non-life-threatening condition.

A 23-year-old man was also hospitalized and has since been discharged.

The driver of the van, a 26-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He was subsequently further arrested while in custody on suspicion of drug driving offences.

He has been released on bail with conditions while the investigation continues.
