A 27-year-old man from Accrington has been sentenced to 50 months in prison following the discovery of crack cocaine and cash at his address.

Yasser Nawaz, of Garbett Street, Accrington, was sentenced at court on March 11, 2025, for drug possession and assault.

The case stemmed from a warrant executed by Hyndburn Task Force officers on April 26, 2024, at Nawaz’s Garbett Street residence. During the search, officers discovered a quantity of crack cocaine and seized £1,500 in cash.

Nawaz was sentenced to 27 months in prison for possession with intent to supply a Class A drug. In addition, he received a 23-month custodial sentence for assault, which the judge ordered to be served consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 50 months.

The operation was conducted as part of Lancashire Police’s ongoing #OpWarrior initiative, which targets serious and organised crime within the county.

Supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, #OpWarrior aims to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks involved in drug supply, violence, exploitation, and fraud, all of which significantly impact local communities.

Lancashire Police emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating drug-related crime.

They encourage anyone with information or concerns about drug activity in their area to come forward.

Reports can be made by calling 101 or by submitting information online via the Lancashire Police website.

The successful prosecution of Nawaz demonstrates the commitment of Lancashire Police to tackling drug crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Accrington and across the county.
