A 19-year-old drug dealer, Ali Zaman, has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison after a dangerous attempt to evade police in Blackburn.

Zaman, of Hermitage Street, Rishton, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, as well as dangerous driving.

The incident occurred on January 28th, when officers from the East Targeted Crime Team spotted Zaman driving a black BMW suspiciously on Pringle Street, Blackburn, at approximately 10:10 am.

When an officer attempted to speak with Zaman, he dangerously reversed the vehicle and fled the scene.

A short time later, officers located Zaman on Queens Park Road. He attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended.

During the arrest, officers found £320 in cash, a BMW car key, and house keys in his possession.

The BMW was subsequently located on Queens Park Close. Using the key seized from Zaman, officers unlocked the vehicle and discovered a chewing gum container under the rear wheel.

The container held wraps of heroin and crack cocaine, with a street value of £1,080.

A subsequent search of Zaman’s residence on Hermitage Street, Rishton, revealed further evidence of drug activity, including weighing scales and a bag containing powder used as a bulking agent for crack cocaine.

Additionally, incriminating messages related to drug dealing were found on Zaman’s mobile phone.

Detective Constable Dan Burton of the East Targeted Crime Team commented on the case, stating,

“Zaman’s behaviour was unacceptable. Thanks to information from the community, targeted crime team officers have managed to take this drug dealer off the streets of Blackburn.

If you have information about drug-dealing in your area pass it onto the police, confident that we will take the appropriate action.”

Zaman was charged with possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, and dangerous driving.

He entered guilty pleas to all charges and was sentenced at court on March 17th.

The police are urging members of the public to continue to report any suspicious activity related to drug dealing in their communities.
