Six men are in police custody following a violent disturbance involving weapons on Wilmslow Road, Manchester, early this morning.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the scene shortly before 1:45 am on Monday, March 17th, after receiving reports of a large disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a group of men had been engaged in a fight, reportedly wielding knives and hammers.
Several individuals sustained serious injuries, though authorities have confirmed they are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The six men arrested, aged between 18 and 24, are being held on suspicion of affray and are currently being questioned by detectives.
Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of the City of Manchester Criminal Investigation Department stated,
“Whilst we do believe this to be a targeted attack, we do not underestimate the impact this will have on the local community.
This incident happened in a busy area, showing an unacceptable disregard for the safety of the community.
Fortunately, no further injuries have been reported to us, and we were able to arrest those who we believe to be involved immediately.”
DI Astbury also reassured residents that additional officers have been deployed to the area to conduct further inquiries and encouraged anyone with concerns or questions to speak to them.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the incident.
They are particularly interested in obtaining any CCTV, dash cam, or mobile phone footage that may have captured the fight.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police by calling 101 and quoting log number 146 of 17/03/25.
Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
