A collaborative operation between Chorley Council, South Ribble Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, and Lancashire Police has successfully identified approximately 30 environmental crime offences related to illegal waste disposal.
Operation Alloy, which targeted businesses and unlicensed waste carriers attempting to dispose of trade waste at household waste and recycling centres, has been hailed as a significant victory in the fight against environmental crime.
Officers were strategically positioned at the Farington and Chorley household waste and recycling centres to monitor and intercept those attempting to illegally dispose of commercial waste.
Their vigilance led to the identification of numerous offences, which are now under active investigation.
“This operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in protecting our environment,” stated a spokesperson from Chorley Council.
“By working together, we have sent a clear message that illegal waste disposal will not be tolerated.
We are committed to ensuring that businesses and individuals adhere to the law and dispose of their waste responsibly.”
The joint initiative, named Operation Alloy, focused on preventing businesses and unlicensed carriers from circumventing regulations by improperly using household waste facilities for commercial waste disposal.
This practice not only burdens local taxpayers but also poses significant environmental risks.
“We are pleased with the outcome of Operation Alloy,” said a representative from Lancashire County Council.
“This operation serves as a strong deterrent and reinforces the importance of proper waste management practices.
We will continue to work with our partners to ensure the protection of our environment.”
Lancashire Police also played a crucial role in the operation, providing support and enforcement capabilities.
“Environmental crime is a serious issue, and we are committed to working with our partners to bring offenders to justice,” stated a police spokesperson.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities and holding those who break the law accountable.”
The success of Operation Alloy underscores the importance of partnership working in addressing environmental crime.
The agencies involved are committed to continuing their efforts to protect the environment and ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations.
