Kent Police are celebrating the retirement of Police Dog (PD) Boris, a canine crime-fighting legend who has hung up his harness after five years of dedicated service.

The highly effective German Shepherd has played a pivotal role in apprehending numerous dangerous criminals, leaving a legacy of unwavering determination and exceptional tracking skills.

PD Boris’s career is marked by a series of remarkable achievements. His athleticism and keen sense of smell proved to be a formidable combination, thwarting those who attempted to evade capture by fleeing or hiding in remote locations.

Among his many highlights, PD Boris successfully tracked down a violent suspect wanted for robbery and kidnap, who had concealed himself in dense undergrowth in Sittingbourne.

He also apprehended a suspect who had indecently exposed himself to two women in Sheerness, demonstrating his swift and decisive action.

His tracking abilities were further showcased when he located a stolen delivery van victim’s phone, discarded in a bush in Medway.

Even in his final days of service, PD Boris’s commitment remained unwavering. In his last 10 days, he detained three separate offenders.

During one incident, he sustained facial injuries after being assaulted, yet he bravely held onto the suspect until his handler arrived, ensuring the individual was taken into custody.

PC Nathan Southern, PD Boris’s handler for the past two years, praised the dog’s exceptional service.

“I have worked with PD Boris for just over two years and he has been an exceptional public servant. Many villains who have sought to outrun him have found to their cost that he will relentlessly pursue them until they surrender or need additional persuasion,” he stated.

“He will now retire to a loving home where he can reminisce on his many successes.”

Despite the loss of such a valuable member of the force, PC Southern reassured the public that Kent Police’s canine unit remains strong.

“Criminals should not, however, be encouraged by his absence from the streets as his younger colleagues will be enthusiastically taking on the challenge of protecting the people of Kent.”

PD Boris will now enjoy a well-deserved retirement in a loving home, where he can relax and reflect on his remarkable career, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and dedication to the safety of the Kent community.
