A 60-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of a cannabis cultivation operation at a property on Shore Road in Hesketh Bank this morning.

Lancashire Police executed a warrant at the address, uncovering a sophisticated cannabis setup.

In addition to the illegal cultivation of cannabis plants, officers found evidence of electricity being bypassed, posing a significant fire risk to neighbouring properties.

The arrested man is being held on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug, possession of a Class A drug, abstracting electricity, and cultivating cannabis.

He is currently in custody and will be questioned by police.

The police have addressed the common public misconceptions surrounding cannabis cultivation, emphasizing that despite arguments that it is “just a plant,” it remains illegal and carries significant risks.

“We understand that there are differing opinions on the legality of cannabis,” a spokesperson for Lancashire Police stated.

“However, the cultivation of cannabis is illegal and can have a major impact on our communities. Often, these operations are linked to modern slavery and organised crime groups. While some may dismiss it as ‘just a plant,’ cannabis can have devastating effects, and we will not tolerate it.”

The police also highlighted the dangers of electricity being bypassed at such properties.

“The risks associated with bypassing electricity are very serious, creating a significant fire hazard that endangers not only the property involved but also neighbouring homes,” the spokesperson added.

The operation was conducted under #OpWarrior, Lancashire Police’s initiative to tackle organised crime and drug-related offences.

The police are urging anyone with information about drug activity in their area to come forward and report it.
