Detectives investigating the brutal murder of Luqman Ishfaq have issued a renewed appeal for information on what would have been his 24th birthday, March 15th.

Ishfaq was tragically killed on Barlow Street on October 21, 2024, after being subjected to a violent attack involving beatings and stabbings.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are continuing their extensive investigation, which has so far resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals.

Sixteen were arrested on suspicion of murder, and three for violent disorder. All have been released on bail pending further investigations.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, leading the investigation, emphasized the ongoing commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.

“Extensive enquiries have been made into this serious and appalling crime in which Mr. Ishfaq was chased and set upon by a group of males in the street,” she stated.

The investigation has involved meticulous efforts, including reviewing CCTV footage, analyzing mobile phone data, gathering witness statements, and conducting house-to-house inquiries.

“19 people have been arrested and we will continue to investigate and pursue every line of enquiry until we get justice for him,” DCI Atkinson reiterated.

“Luqman was cruelly taken away from his family, today they should have been celebrating his 24th birthday. We are continuing to support his family at this time.”

Investigators believe numerous individuals witnessed the attack and may possess crucial information.

“There were a lot of people in the area at the time who witnessed the incident and who were involved. I would urge them to speak to us. Any information however small, may be key to getting justice for Luqman and his family,” DCI Atkinson urged.

She stressed the severity of the crime and the determination to hold those responsible accountable.

“Violence like this has no place on our street, and we will continue to investigate and get people involved charged and through the courts.”

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
