A coordinated multi-agency operation on Plungington Road has resulted in the seizure of approximately £2,000 worth of illicit tobacco and vapes, alongside multiple arrests for various offences.

Officers from Preston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and Preston Task Force joined forces with Lancashire Trading Standards, Immigration, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Housing Standards, and Environmental Health to conduct compliance checks at eight premises on the busy thoroughfare.

The day of action, which took place this week, targeted the sale of illegal goods and other criminal activities impacting the local community.

Key outcomes of the operation included:

* Seizure of Illicit Goods: Approximately £2,000 worth of illegal tobacco and vapes were confiscated.

* Immigration Arrests: Two individuals were arrested in connection with immigration offences.

* Weapons and Drug Offences: One person was arrested for possession of a knife, and another for possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

* Stop Searches: Six stop searches were conducted.

* Vehicle Seizure: A vehicle was seized due to lack of insurance.

PC Lloyd from Preston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasized the collaborative nature of the operation, stating,

“This operation demonstrates the strong working relationships that we have with our partners and the commitment we all have to working together to tackle the issues that our communities are facing.”

Councillor Michael Green, cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing at Lancashire County Council, highlighted the importance of addressing the sale of illicit products.

“It is so important for us to tackle sales of illicit vape and tobacco products, by working together with our partners on days of action like this in the community,” he said.

He further condemned the actions of unscrupulous traders, stating,

“We will always take action against unscrupulous shop owners who prioritise profits over the health and wellbeing of our community.

Selling shoddy and possibly dangerous products puts buyers at a significant risk of harm and this is totally unacceptable.”

Lancashire Trading Standards has vowed to take the strongest possible action against those who break the law.

Residents are encouraged to report any concerns about the sale of age-restricted products to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Service helpline on 0808 223 1133.
