Major Fire Closes Cropper Road in Westby with Plumptons, Blackpool

A significant fire has broken out at a commercial building on Cropper Road in Westby with Plumptons, Blackpool, prompting a large-scale response from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

Six fire engines, along with an aerial ladder platform, are currently on the scene battling the blaze.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 16:53 GMT on Thursday, March 14, 2025.

Firefighters from South Shore, Blackpool, St Annes, Bispham, Fulwood, and Preston were dispatched, with the aerial ladder platform arriving from Preston to assist in tackling the fire from above.

Crews are utilizing breathing apparatus, a main line jet, two hose reels, and a ventilation unit to extinguish the flames. The aerial ladder platform is also being employed to provide crucial access to the building and aid in firefighting efforts.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that firefighters are still actively working to bring the fire under control. “Crews remain in attendance,” a spokesperson stated.

In response to the incident, Cropper Road has been closed at both ends, causing significant disruption to local traffic.

Lancashire Police have issued a statement advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

“We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time, whilst we assess the situation,” a police spokesperson said.

Pedestrian access to the residential estate located on Cropper Road is being maintained, and residents who have left vehicles within the closed area will be able to retrieve them later.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.

“We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening and we’ll update you here once the road is open,” the police statement added.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations will commence once the fire has been fully extinguished.
