Dog walker attacked in harrowing early morning assault in Ribbleton

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A dog walker, a man in his 50s, has been rushed to hospital following a horrific assault on Wednesday morning.

The man from Preston was attacked whilst walking his dog just after 6am on Langden Drive outiside Ribbleton Clinic Health Centre at the junction with Pope Lane and Ribbleton Hall Drive.

Emergency services were called at 6:15am to reports of an assault. A man in his 30s from Preston was swiftly arrested by armed police near the scene with help from members of the public.

A topless man can be seen being tasered by Police nearby. He has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

A cordon remains in place with road closures around the scene, Ribbleton Hall Drive is closed from Mitton Drive down to the junction of Pope Lane Langden Drive and Waddington Road.

This is likely to remain in place whilst forensic examinations take place.

Forensic officers in white suits can be seen gathering evidence at the scene.

Moor Nook Primary school that’s sits within the cordon will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Det Insp James Weatherby, of Preston CID, said:” This assault has left a man with some very significant injuries, and he remains in a poorly condition in hospital.

“While we have made an arrest our enquiries are still at a very early stage. I would appeal to anyone who has any information or footage which could help us piece together exactly what has happened to get in touch.”

A cordon is still in place and the school is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.
