A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison for the rape of a vulnerable 12-year-old girl in Nottingham.

Humza Khan, who has a previous conviction for sexual assault, pleaded guilty to the crime.

The harrowing incident occurred on the night of May 18th last year, near Crown Island, Nottingham.

The victim, who was walking alone, was approached by Khan and engaged in conversation. Khan subsequently led her to a nearby park where he subjected her to a prolonged and brutal sexual assault.

Nottinghamshire Police launched a thorough investigation, utilizing CCTV footage to trace Khan and his bicycle to the scene of the crime.

Crucially, Khan had also given the victim his mobile phone number, which proved instrumental in identifying him.

The victim positively identified Khan during a police-controlled identification procedure.

Despite initially remaining silent during police interviews, Khan, formerly of Hawton Crescent, Wollaton, eventually admitted to the rape.

Appearing before Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, March 7th, Khan was sentenced to a substantial prison term. In addition to the jail sentence, he was issued a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, severely restricting his contact with children.

He will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Jason Jenkins, who led the investigation, condemned Khan’s actions, stating:

“Khan is a predatory sex offender who took advantage of a vulnerable child in the most appalling way imaginable.

As a result of this very thorough investigation, the evidence against him was overwhelming – leaving him little choice but to enter a guilty plea.”

He added, “As he begins this very significant jail sentence, my thoughts remain with the victim in this case who must now live with the memory of what this man did to her.”

The sentencing marks the conclusion of a distressing case, and serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of sexual violence on victims.
