Nottingham city centre faced significant disruption today, Tuesday, March 11th, after a suspicious package was discovered, prompting widespread road closures and the suspension of tram services.

Police cordoned off a large area encompassing Market Square and several surrounding streets, including Long Row, Friar Lane, Wheeler Gate, King Street, Queen Street, Market Street, Exchange Walk, Parliament Street, South Sherwood Street, Maid Marian Way, and Tollhouse Lane.

While authorities have confirmed that the package has been made safe, closures remain in place as investigative work continues.

The incident has caused major traffic congestion and significant delays for commuters and shoppers.

The impact has been felt across public transport networks.

Trentbartonland announced that multiple bus services, including skylink Nottingham, skylink express, mainline, the cotgrave, the keyworth, i4, and indigo, are terminating at alternative locations due to the closures. Passengers have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

NET Nottingham Tram services have been severely affected, with a complete suspension between Royal Centre and Toton Lane/Clifton South in both directions.

Cross-ticket acceptance has been arranged with NCT Navy Line and Orange Line buses and East Midlands Railway (EMR) to mitigate the disruption.

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) has also implemented significant diversions. Buses are unable to serve stops in Old Market Square, Angel Row, King Street, and Queen Street.

Alternative stops have been designated on Maid Marian Way, Elite, Upper Parliament Street, Burton Street, and at the Victoria Centre, depending on the specific route.

“There has been an incident in the City Centre,” NCT confirmed in a statement, advising passengers to check for updated information.

The incident has caused widespread frustration and delays for those travelling in and around Nottingham.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the nature of the suspicious package.

The public is advised to avoid the affected areas and to follow updates from Nottinghamshire Police and local transport providers.
