A dog walker in Doncaster has been praised for her “heroic” actions after she intervened in a police pursuit, helping officers arrest a man who fled a crashed vehicle.
The incident occurred on Saturday in the Intake area when police attempted to stop a speeding Kia.
The vehicle, which reached speeds of 88mph in 30mph zones, failed to stop and led officers on a short chase. The pursuit ended when the Kia crashed into a wall, prompting all three occupants to flee on foot.
As one of the men attempted to escape down an alleyway, a woman walking her dog bravely stepped in front of him, slowing him down and giving pursuing officers the crucial time needed to catch up.
PC Sam Duddington, who made the arrest alongside PC Luke O’Donnell, expressed his gratitude to the anonymous woman.
“This anonymous hero was just out walking her dog, but sensed what was happening and tried to help us by bravely stepping out in front of the suspect,” he said.
“This slowed him down enough to allow myself and PC Luke O’Donnell to catch up with the suspect and arrest him.”
PC Duddington emphasized the woman’s bravery and quick thinking. “I really do want to thank her as she was incredibly brave and her quick-thinking really did give us the chance to gain ground and make that arrest,” he added.
“As police officers, we really do value the public’s co-operation and assistance, and knowing we have the support of our communities is a brilliant feeling.”
The man was arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
Police have not released further details about the arrested individual or the other occupants of the vehicle.
The Doncaster community is now applauding the dog walker’s courage and public-spiritedness, highlighting the vital role residents can play in supporting law enforcement.
