A Birmingham man in his 50s has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually abusing two boys in the 1980s and 1990s.
Raymond Tombs, now 59, was in his 20s when he committed the offences, with both victims being under the age of 14 at the time.
The traumatic crimes, which remained hidden for decades, came to light after one of the victims confided in a family member about the abuse they had suffered.
West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit launched an investigation, identifying the second victim and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Raymond Tombs, of Longley Crescent, Birmingham, was found guilty of six counts of indecency against children following a trial last week.
On Friday, March 7th, he was sentenced to nine years imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court.
Investigator Kuli Mudhar, from the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit, praised the victims for their courage, stating:
“The children who endured this abuse are now adults and have shown immense bravery in coming forward to say what has happened. It is due to their courage that this abuser is now behind bars, sending a clear message that we will always pursue such matters, even when decades have gone by.”
The case highlights the commitment of law enforcement to pursue historical sexual abuse cases, emphasizing that time does not diminish the severity of such crimes. It also underscores the importance of survivors coming forward, no matter how long ago the abuse occurred.
Survivors of sexual abuse are protected by law and have lifelong anonymity.
