A murder investigation is underway following the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Joanne Penney in the Llys Illtyd area of Talbot Green on Sunday evening, March 9, 2025.
South Wales Police were called to the scene at approximately 6:10 PM following reports of a shooting.
Officers and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service attended, but despite their efforts, Ms. Penney was pronounced dead at the scene.
While formal identification is yet to be completed, police have confirmed they believe the victim to be Joanne Penney, and her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Authorities have requested that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.
A 42-year-old man from Talbot Green was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Crime scene investigations are ongoing as detectives work to gather evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes reassured the local community, stating, “I want to reassure the local community that a team of experienced detectives and specialist staff are continuing to work at pace to piece together the events of last night including recovering CCTV.”
Police are appealing for witnesses and are particularly interested in obtaining dash-cam footage from anyone who was driving in the Talbot Green area between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM on Sunday.
