A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and firearm possession following a shooting in Killen Green Park on Friday, March 7th.
A man in his 20s was shot and injured in what police believe was a targeted attack.
Merseyside Police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:15 AM on Friday, where a man in his 20s had sustained an arm injury. It was reported that the victim had been riding a yellow scrambler bike in the park shortly before the incident. He fled the scene on foot and was later found by emergency services.
He is currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Following extensive investigations, a 27-year-old man from Netherton was arrested on Sunday. He is currently in custody and being questioned by detectives.
During a search of Killen Green Park, officers recovered a blank-firing pistol, which is currently undergoing forensic examination. Police have stated that at this stage, they do not believe this weapon is connected to the shooting.
Three warrants were executed in connection with the investigation, resulting in the seizure of mobile phones and clothing.
Detective Superintendent Paul Speight condemned the use of firearms in the community, stating, “The use of firearms in our communities is quite simply unacceptable. We are relentless in our pursuit of anyone prepared to use such weapons on our streets.”
He emphasized the ongoing efforts of the police to disrupt those carrying weapons, including conducting warrants, land searches, and stop searches based on intelligence and information from the public.
“Guns bring nothing but misery to our communities and we would ask for people in those communities affected to come forward with any information they may have so we can bring those responsible to justice and prevent further incidents,” Detective Superintendent Speight said.
He also reassured residents that there would be a continued high-visibility police presence in the area.
Police are appealing for witnesses who were in Killen Green Park around 11:15 AM on Friday.
They are particularly interested in any dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage that may have captured relevant information.
