The family of 63-year-old Keith Hornby, who tragically died in a road collision on Wednesday, March 5th, have released a heartfelt tribute, expressing their devastation and gratitude for public support.

Mr. Hornby was killed at the junction of Tarbock Road and Manley Road in Huyton after his blue mountain bike collided with a black Volkswagen ID5 car.

In a statement released through Merseyside Police, his family said,

“We wish to express our gratitude to the police in their quick response and professional investigation, along with the sensitive press reporting and support/condolences shown by the public.”

The family described Mr. Hornby as a “father, son, brother, brother-in-law, and an uncle,” emphasizing his role as a dedicated family man and the primary carer for his mother.

“As you can imagine, the whole family are devastated with Keith’s death and are struggling to come to terms with how it occurred,” they stated.

Mr. Hornby was a keen cyclist, regularly riding his dark blue mountain bike along the same route for approximately 20 years.

“His main hobby was bike riding which he did safely every day,” his family said, adding that many locals would have seen him on his daily rides.

The tribute highlighted the family’s heartbreak, as Mr. Hornby had recently celebrated his brother and niece’s birthday and was looking forward to his mother’s 90th birthday on March 14th.

“Sadly, this will not be the same now,” they expressed.

The family concluded their tribute with, “From the loving family and friends of Keith Hornby.”

Following the incident, James O’Donnell, 34, of Cypress Road, Huyton, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level is above the limit, driving whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to report that road accident.

Merseyside Police are continuing to appeal for information from the public.
