Middleton residents are reeling after a shocking daylight attack on a 70-year-old woman, prompting a major police investigation.
The incident, which occurred on Crow Hill South at 11:20am on Thursday, March 6th, involved a suspect believed to be armed with a knife.
Thankfully, the victim escaped serious physical injury, but has been left deeply traumatized by the terrifying ordeal.
Greater Manchester Police have now released CCTV footage of a man they urgently wish to speak to in connection with the attack, believing he holds vital information.
“We do believe this to be an unprovoked attack which has left a woman incredibly shaken,” stated Detective Inspector Kimberley Hines from the Rochdale district. “We know that hearing about this incident will be concerning for our communities, but I want to assure you that extensive work is underway to locate the suspect.”
Officers have been conducting extensive inquiries, including door-to-door visits, witness interviews, and the analysis of hundreds of hours of CCTV footage. Extra resources have been deployed to build a detailed timeline of events and trace the suspect’s movements.
The released CCTV footage shows a man whose face is obscured, but police are appealing to the public to focus on his clothing and build.
“Whilst you cannot see his face in the video, we ask if anyone recognises the clothing or perhaps his build, and can help us identify him – please come forward,” urged Detective Inspector Hines.
The attack has sparked widespread concern in the community, with residents expressing shock and fear.
Police have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance and support.
