Euxton’s A49 was briefly transformed into a makeshift motocross circuit last night, much to the dismay of local residents and law-abiding drivers.
Three individuals, seemingly auditioning for a low-budget action movie, were caught tearing down the road on an illegal off-road bike, turning the quiet evening into a scene from a poorly lit, high-speed chase.
Officers from Chorley, joining forces with the Traffic Police, responded to reports of the nuisance vehicle, which was being used as a personal race track. The bike, which was carrying all three riders, lacked any form of lighting, making it a serious hazard in the dark.
Imagine trying to spot a gremlin on wheels, and you’re halfway there.
“It was like something out of a comedy sketch, only with real danger,” said one witness, who preferred to remain anonymous. “They were weaving in and out of traffic, and you couldn’t see them coming until they were right on top of you.”
The police, however, were not amused. Under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act, the bike was seized and taken off the road, putting an end to the impromptu race.
The three riders were also served with Section 59 warnings for driving in an anti-social manner, meaning any further similar behaviour will result in the vehicle being seized.
“This isn’t just about a bit of fun,” said a police spokesperson. “These actions endanger everyone on the road. We’re committed to keeping our roads safe and will take action against anyone who disregards the law.”
The seizure serves as a stark reminder that using public roads as a personal playground is not only illegal but incredibly dangerous.
As for the three riders, they’ll be walking home, and probably thinking twice before their next attempt at a late night, illegal, three man motorbike stunt show.
