Man 63 sadly dies and woman 48 seriously injured after being struck by car in Hull

A fatal collision on Holderness Road in Hull has resulted in the death of a man and left a woman in serious condition.

The incident occurred late Friday night, prompting a significant road closure and an ongoing police investigation.

According to eyewitness accounts, a vehicle was travelling at high speed towards Mutley’s pub, striking the couple as they walked along the road.

“I drove down towards Mutley’s pub leading to Holderness Road, and a car has been speeding and taken out a couple,” an eyewitness reported.

“An older guy was deceased in the middle of the road, but the woman was responsive, so I put her in the recovery position and helped paramedics.”

Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was transported to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

The eyewitness expressed their sorrow, stating, “Such a shame a couple went out on a Friday night with the intention of having a good time and it’s ended in a fatality.”

Humberside Police have closed a significant section of Holderness Road and several surrounding junctions as they conduct their investigations.

The closures include the junctions with Wilton Street, Williamson Street, Thomas Street, Damson Lane, Clarence Street, and the A165.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

“Please be aware there is currently a number of road closures in place whilst we deal with an ongoing incident,” a police statement confirmed.

“This includes the following junctions with Holderness Road, Wilton Street, Williamson Street, Thomas Street, Damson Lane, Clarence Street, and the A165.

The incident has caused significant disruption in the area, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the collision to come forward.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:

“Officers are appealing for information after a car collided with two pedestrians on Holderness Road in Hull at around 7.50pm yesterday evening (Friday, 7 March).

It is reported that the driver of a grey BMW X5 was travelling eastbound on Holderness Road before colliding with a man and a woman crossing the road near to the junction of Clarence Street and Dansom Lane South.

Emergency services attended however a 63-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

A 48-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.
