Lancaster residents have been urged to monitor their children’s activities following a night of disruptive anti-social behaviour that led to two arrests and the seizure of five e-scooters.
Local neighbourhood officers reported a surge in incidents involving groups of youths, beginning with disruptions at a community youth group.
According to police, a group of children entered the youth centre and instead of participating in the planned activities, they harassed staff and other children who were trying to enjoy the evening.
Later, the focus of the disruptive behaviour shifted to the city centre, where another group of youths targeted local food venues. Police reported that these individuals harassed staff and customers, shouting abuse and throwing objects within the premises.
“We saw unacceptable behaviour last night,” a spokesperson for Lancaster Police stated.
“Two youths were arrested for their actions in the city centre and taken into police custody. In addition, three e-scooters belonging to the youths were seized and will be destroyed.”
The police statement emphasized that the majority of children in the area are well-behaved, but a small minority are causing significant disruption.
“We know most children are nice and respectable, and it is the small minority who ruin it,” the police spokesperson said.
“But please, if you are a parent, make sure you know where your children are and what they are doing.”
The seizure of the e-scooters highlights an ongoing issue with their misuse in public spaces.
Authorities are taking a firm stance against anti-social behaviour and are sending a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated.
Residents are encouraged to report any instances of anti-social behaviour to the police.
The police also asked that parents speak with their children about respecting community spaces and the people within them.
