Motorists traveling on the M6 near Preston are facing delays this afternoon following a road traffic collision that has resulted in lane closures.

The incident, which occurred between junctions 32 (Broughton Interchange) and 33 (Lancaster South/Garstang), has forced the closure of lanes 2 and 3 southbound, and lane 3 northbound.

Emergency services are currently on the scene.

“We have closed lanes 2 and 3 southbound and lane 3 northbound between junctions 32 and 33 due to a road traffic collision,” confirmed authorities in a statement.

“We anticipate that the road will be closed for a short amount of time, whilst we make sure the road is safe.”

Drivers are being advised to seek alternative routes where possible and to allow extra time for their journeys. Traffic is expected to build up in the area as congestion increases.

“In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination,” the statement continued.

The extent of any injuries sustained in the collision is currently unknown.

Officials have pledged to provide further updates as the situation develops and the lanes are reopened.

Motorists are urged to exercise patience and drive cautiously in the affected area.
