A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after police successfully located two stolen electric bikes using tracking devices. The incident occurred in Everton, Liverpool, on Tuesday, March 4th.
At approximately 4:50 PM, two 13-year-old boys were approached by three males on Eaton Road. The youths forcibly stole the boys’ e-bikes, leaving the teenagers shaken but uninjured. The victims returned home, and their parents promptly reported the robbery to Merseyside Police.
Responding officers met with the boys and discovered that the e-bikes were equipped with tracking devices. This allowed the police to quickly pinpoint the location of the stolen bikes to a property in Everton.
Officers executed a search at the address, where they arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of robbery. The two stolen e-bikes were recovered and seized, and they will be returned to their rightful owners.
The arrested man is currently in police custody.
Detective Inspector Steve Street condemned the aggressive nature of the robbery, stating, “To target two young teenagers in such an aggressive manner and take their bikes is shocking; this would have been a frightening experience for them.”
He emphasized the effectiveness of the tracking devices, saying, “We hope the knowledge that these bikes were fitted with a tracker will serve as a strong deterrent to anyone who would consider attempting to steal such a vehicle.
I also hope it demonstrates very clearly to owners the value of ensuring bikes, particularly high-value bikes, are fitted with trackers.”
