Kyle Clifford, 26, has been found guilty of rape in connection with the brutal murders of three women in Bushey, Hertfordshire, earlier this year.
The unemployed man, formerly of Rendlesham Road, Enfield, was convicted of raping Louise Hunt, 25, on July 9, 2024, following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court.
The jury delivered a unanimous verdict.
The conviction follows Clifford’s earlier guilty pleas on January 22nd to the murders of Carol Hunt, 61, Louise Hunt, and Hannah Hunt, 28, all of whom were killed in their family home.
He also admitted to one count of false imprisonment of Louise Hunt and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Clifford refused to attend court, and the trial proceeded in his absence.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit expressed his condemnation of Clifford’s actions.
“Clifford has been convicted today following a trial. There was overwhelming evidence that he had raped Louise Hunt as well as murdering her, her mother Carol and sister Hannah. This was an appalling attack on a family,” he stated.
DCI Gardner further criticized Clifford’s refusal to face justice, saying, “Clifford has remained a coward up until the end by refusing to appear at court and face up to his actions.
Great lengths were made to ensure he could attend court including the location chosen for the trial, but Clifford chose to stay away.”
In contrast, DCI Gardner praised the Hunt family’s resilience, saying, “In stark contrast the Hunt family have shown extreme strength and dignity throughout. Our thoughts remain with them at this time.”
The horrific crime, which shocked the community, saw the lives of three women violently taken in their own home. The conviction of rape adds another layer of depravity to Clifford’s already heinous crimes.
Clifford is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, March 11th. The sentencing will address the multiple counts of murder, rape, false imprisonment, and possession of offensive weapons.
The court is expected to deliver a severe sentence reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
