Urgent search continues for 19-Year-Old in River Ouse, York

Emergency services are engaged in an ongoing search operation for a 19-year-old man who entered the River Ouse in York early this morning.

North Yorkshire Police received a report at 3:06 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, that the man had entered the river from Ouse Bridge.

Immediately responding to the incident, York Rescue Boat and Fire boat crews launched extensive search efforts between Ouse Bridge and Skeldergate Bridge. Despite their efforts, the man has not yet been located.

This morning, the Police Under Water Search Unit joined the operation, continuing the search with specialized resources.

The man’s family has been informed of the incident and is currently receiving support from North Yorkshire Police.

Authorities have stated that there are no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. However, they are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the search.

North Yorkshire Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who possesses relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward as soon as possible.

“We are deeply concerned for the safety of the young man and are utilizing all available resources to locate him,” a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police stated.

“We understand this is a distressing time for his family, and we are providing them with the necessary support.”
